The orchestra started some thirty years ago in Indooroopilly as a family musical group which rehearsed and performed in family homes. From there it grew to the Indooroopilly Chamber Orchestra (ICO) an incorporated community orchestra with modest membership. In the last year or so the group has grown rapidly to double its size and now plays the symphonic repertoire.
Players share the joy of playing music together in a relaxed atmosphere and share the desire of improving their musicianship. We avoid repetitive rehearsal of short segments of music as most players realise where they need more personal practice. In addition to concert pieces, we enjoy additional sight reading of challenging music. Being enthusiastic musicians, much enjoyment is guaranteed.
We perform two or three public concerts each year and also play on special occasions. Our repertoire comprises classical overtures, symphonies and concertos and some contemporary music. Some of our players perform trios, quartets or other ensemble items for variety in our concerts. We have joined with choirs to perform choral works such as Vivaldi's Gloria and in February 2005 combined with the St Lucia Orchestra and invited artists to perform a Tsunami Relief Concert.
We welcome new members (please see "Contact Us" page) and members are encouraged to suggest repertoire and to conduct selected items. We have also welcomed and performed a member's composition.
We rehearse at the St Lucia Uniting Church hall, corner of Hawken Drive and Swann Rd, St Lucia (opposite Ironside Primary School) on Thursday evenings from 7.15pm to 9.30pm.
A second orchestra ICO2 has been established for less experienced players and players of instruments for which no vacancies currently exist in ICO. ICO2 will rehearse until further notice at the St Andrews Anglican Church hall, corner of Lambert Rd and Fairley St Indooroopilly, on Thursday evenings from 7.15 to 9.30pm.
Welcome, Come and try us out!
